USS PYRO AE 1 AND AE 24:INSTRUCTIONS FOR WEBSITE ADDITIONSHow to send photos, memorabilia, slides, documents, negatives, etc. For the Pyro website: (suggestion: if you are not computer savvy, take these instructions to your commercial copying place). Our Webmaster, C. Ray Nichol, will be happy to get on the phone with them and work out the details (please see address details below). GETTING THE ITEMS READY TO PUT ON THE WEBSITE: BEST ALTERNATIVE: Take the items to the closest commercial printing/copying/camera/imaging place you can find to scan them using the information in the technical scanning details found later in this memorandum. (Or go to the USS Pyro image upload instructions on the website. There are also good instructions on how to scan there as well). If you cant find a suitable place to go, the Webmaster can recommend a good one for you. NEXT BEST ALTERNATIVE: Send items directly to the Webmaster at the address below. If you do it this way, you must label every item so it wont be lost. (Post-it Notes with your name, and item description on it work well.) Please, do not send them until you have called or emailed the Webmaster to let him know they are coming and how they are being sent so they dont get lost or misdirected. ALTERNATIVE: DIRECT INPUT TO WEBSITE: Call the Webmaster for specific instructions on how to do this yourself. KEEP A COPY: In any event, we suggest that you keep a copy of what you send (if that is practical), including an extra copy of the electronic format, the documentation and your notes. ELECTRONIC FORMAT OF WHAT YOU WILL SEND: The electronic output from the scanning p11/16/2006formats. In technical terms: disks, zip disks, cd-roms, jazz disks, or some other individually designed format. The best for the Webmaster is the cd-rom or a floppy disk. Your scanning place can call the Webmaster, C. Ray Nichol, and talk about the best media format to use. Note: For those who are computer savvy call the Webmaster for instructions on downloading directly to the website and/or to the ftp site. TECHNICAL SCANNING DETAILS: Files must be .jpg, .gif, .tif,
.eps or .bmp format and filenames may not contain any spaces or special characters.
Filenames may be no longer than 32 characters (including extension and period
separator)

(Note: if you cant do it in writing, we will have a special format that you can discuss with the Webmaster where you can speak into a tape recorder about the items) (Note: typing is preferable and if you can, please send the writing in either an email or in some other electronic format so our webmaster doesnt have to retype it). Again, if you have questions, please, call the Webmaster. Specifically, try to give each item one or more categories (described below) so each item can be classified properly. Lastly, we need to know who is submitting it to the website (who it is from). MORE DESCRIPTION DETAILS: MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION NEEDED: WHO IS IT?
